Application, Transfer and Water Billing.

Application

1. Membership Status and Contribution to Extension Line

✓ The first condition for getting a water connection from the Kathita Kiirua Water Project is that you must be either a Full Member or a User.:

• A Full Member is someone who lives within the project’s official area, which includes the listed local water systems.

• A User is someone who lives outside the project’s boundary—that is, someone who is not covered by any of the listed local water systems and closely neighbours the project boundary.

If you are not sure whether you qualify as a Full Member or a User, please call our office for clarification before making any payments.

If you are sure that you are a Full Member, the following charges apply:

Item Cost (Ksh)
Implementation fund 3,000
Mainline Days_400*40 16,000
Registration 1,000
Local Water System_400*13 5,200
Total Cost 25,200

If you are a User, the following charges apply:

Item Cost (Ksh)

Mainline Days_400*30 12,000
Registration 1,000
Local Water System_400*13 5,200
Total Cost 20,700

After paying the full required amount, you will be issued a Membership Card (for Full Members) or a User Card (for Users), which will include your Membership Number. This number is important for identification and future services.

✓ The second condition is that the applicant must have participated in the trenching of the extension line and contributed to the purchase of water pipes, especially if the connection involves a new chamber (the concrete box that holds a meter).

If the applicant did not participate in the trenching and pipe purchase, they are required to pay the agreed amount set by those who did the trenching and pipe contribution up to the specific chamber that the applicant intends to use for their meter.

2. Application Process and Pipe Installation

✓ Once the above conditions are met, you should visit our office, located next to St. Theresa Mission Hospital, and pay for a water connection.

✓ You will be given a Water Connection Application Form.

✓ The form must be filled out and signed by:
• The committee of the sub-unit where your land is located.
• The LWS (Local Water System) Chairperson.

✓ You must attach the following documents to the application form:
• A copy of your ID
• A copy of your KRA PIN
• A passport-sized photo
• The land number of the property where water will be connected

✓ You are responsible for laying pipes from your home or land to the chosen chamber (where your water meter will be installed).

✓ After these steps are completed, KKWP plumbers will come within 3 working days to install the water meter and necessary fittings.

Important:
• Water meters are only installed inside chambers, not directly on private land or homes.
• If you want a meter to be placed on your land or home, you must cover all costs involved, including the plumber's labor and any extra materials.

3. Billing and Disconnection Policy

✓ After your water connection is completed:
• Your water bill will be sent to you via SMS (text message). The water tariff consists of a standing charge of KSh 330 for consumption between 0 and 6 cubic meters. Any usage above 6 cubic meters is charged at KSh 55 per cubic meter.
• You must pay the bill within 14 days of receiving the message.

✓ If the bill is not paid within 14 days, your water supply will be disconnected.

✓ To have your water reconnected, you will need to pay a reconnection fee of KES 500.

Important Notice:
✓ Once your water has been disconnected:
• You are not allowed to fetch water through pipes from KKWP water points.
• You are also not allowed to be supplied with water by other members who have private water connections.

✓ Any such actions are considered a violation of the water project rules and may lead to further penalties.
